Summary: Sherwin-Willams Colormix 2024

I was recently able to view a presentation of the Sherwin-Williams Colormix forecast for 2024. I wanted to give you a quick breakdown, plus my thoughts on their collection.

You can check out the entire collection on their website: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-collections/colormix-forecast/2024.

Honestly, I can sum up the entire forecast in one word: COLOR! Interior design has spent the past several years dabbling in whites and grays, and it seems as if the pendulum has finally swung in the opposite direction. We’ve seen hints of this in recent years, as white became gray, and then flat grays shifted into more nuanced grays with blue and green tones. But SW has us fully embracing color in 2024.

This particular color forecast has been broken down into four different color families: Blues & Greens, Reds & Purples, Deeps & Darks, and Delicate Tints. The overarching theme of these, again, seems to be embracing color. Even the dark and light neutrals come across as having a definite shade or tint, without having to go cross-eyed to see it. I would also say that, as a whole, this color collection takes on a softer, more natural tone. While a lot of these colors are bold, they aren’t overly bright or artificial. You won’t find lemon yellows or fire engine reds.

Here’s my take on each color family:

Blues & Greens - If you’re a fan of the gray trend, you can still find some here. These colors are probably the most natural of the bunch. This is a group of soothing, calming tones, great if you’re looking to relax and reduce stress.

Reds & Purples - This group goes bold, without being overwhelming. The family includes deep reds and playful pinks. These colors are great for adding warmth and richness to a space.

Deeps & Darks - If we’re embracing color, then it’s time to take the plunge into dark tones. These deep colors also pull from a more natural palette, just in a richer form. This family would add a moody or elegant feel to any room.

Delicate Tints - For those who love a light, white color scheme, this family is for you. Again, it features plenty of color, but in a very subtle, more neutral, tint. These would be perfect for creating a light, airy space, without making it feel sterile.

In summary, it’s a wide variety of colors, both bright and muted, light and dark. Some might say that SW is hedging their bets by literally covering the spectrum in their forecast. I, however, see it as a representation of interior design today. Current design trends cover a huge range of styles, from minimalism to maximalism, vintage to modern. We’ve spent a lot of quality time in our homes over the past couple of years, and I feel like we have finally realized the need to have our personal space feel, well, personal. I always believe that a person’s home should reflect their individual style, and this color forecast has a little something for everyone. If this is where paint trends are heading, then I am looking forward to a very colorful future!
